About What’s Next Living

A stable foundation for a meaningful next chapter.

What’s Next Living was created from a simple belief: recovery deserves a safe home, clear expectations, and people who see possibility—not just a past.

Our purpose

We are developing structured, nonclinical recovery housing for adults who are ready to maintain a substance-free lifestyle and rebuild stability in community.

Our residences are designed to help bridge the space between treatment or crisis and independent living. They will not replace clinical treatment. Instead, residents can connect with outside providers, meetings, employment, education, and community resources while living in a recovery-focused home.

Founded in Milwaukee

What’s Next Living was founded by Nathan and Jenean Shorter, a married Milwaukee team whose experience spans community work, nonprofit service, housing, real estate, technology, and case-management support.

Properties are held by Shorter Investments LLC. Recovery-housing operations are managed by What’s NXT L.L.C. under the public-facing name What’s Next Living.
